The hardest part of creating something for me, is finding inspiration. I've had very little of it lately, but was fortunate enough to find some with one of `dangeruss's recent submissions of a futuristic formula 1 car originally drawn by Scott Robertson [link]

So I've started this personal project to redesign the current formula one cars to what they might look like in several years. The styling is loosely based around present-day jet fighters, and I have tried to make the body look as 'fast' as possible.

The wheels are temporary, though there will be alloys, the tyre on the rear wheel will be thicker and the type/appearance of the wheel will most likely change.

Still alot to do, this is a work in progress, things I've got lined up include Textures, Interior, axle and wheel struts, rear lights and axle, Small fins attached to several parts of the body for aerodynamics/styling, part lines for the panels, and possibly a clear canopy/cockpit over the driver.

Any comments, critiques, insults, or ideas are more than welcome. :)

Really nice so far.

Off topic: Do you have any c4d materials that you would ever be willing to give up for learning purposes?

Materials? I just make them up as I go. Usually I have colour, reflection, specularity, and maybe transperancy checked. Nothing fancy.

The hard part is the reflections and lighting. For resources on those, go to [link] and find the tutorials section.

I like it alot too, really could imagine that they will look like that one day.

I'm a bit lacking inspiration at the moment too, especially with cars. Not that I could model them though :D

Aren't you afraid of someone ripping of your ideas? That's why I don't post my work here...

Nah, not really. Technically I have intellectual property and copyright on the designs at the time of this deviation being submitted, but I highly doubt ferrari will come in here, steal my idea, and make a formula one car from it.

How do you get the intellectual property and copyright on your designs? Yeah, stealing a car is not so easy, but since I'm mostly doing smaller stuff like monitors stealing isn't too hard. Though you're right, what I have thought of designers can think of too, and I have been inspired by others anyway.

You get intellectual property and copyright by simply naming and dating any sketches that you do. If they if theyre in a ring bound sketch book its even better, since the drawings will be in there chronilogically and cannot be faked. If somebody steals your idea, you can get your sketchbook, with a named and dated page, and take them to court.

Ah, thanks :) I've got some drawings, but they are between my Latin stuff etc.
Guess it's a bit unrealistic though to sue some big company, should be a bit expensive. That's what companies enjoy doing here... sue some smaller companies/persons until they can't go on, it doesn't matter if they are right.

cool, i guess i'll have to start over with just cars as I sort of forgot how to use c4d....lol, never thought that would happen, heck, it took me about 5 minutes to remember how to set the AA quality. I guess i'll finally try to make an EK9. then after that I guess just abstracts for a bit, anyway is that render all done in one take or is it 3 different images combined?

:iconl-x:
L-X Featured By Owner Dec 18, 2006
All in one take, took about 30 minutes with my medium-spec computer (2.4ghz and 1gb ram).

Whats the EK9? You should have a shot at modeling the latest Civics, they're soooooo hot. Much different to the earlier civics.

don't have any friends that own it, thats the main reason, I usually make cars that I have friends that have them, sort of like the enzo, my friends RICH(and racist) uncle has one.

There are quite a few new Civics (we Germans only have the one that looks really sci-fi, the design is a bit... radical maybe. Americans have a softer sedan version IIRC, which is only available as hybrid here, I think. Confusing.)

Hey, the Civics of the 80s/early 90s? were hot too, especially the CRX. While they were quite boxy.

I like the 1996-2000 civic that has the suzuki domani front end, gives it a euro look, because well it really stands out in the USA when you're rolling in a civic but the front end looks like something you'd only see classy people roll in, though the car will have to be painted silver or chrome black to get that effect.

Looking good mate :) I love the design. Are you doing to do a whole suspention and break setup in detail? Just to be picky like always, I know this doesnt matter but aerodynamicly speeking you need to have a flat bottom on any kinda high speed car. Where it bends up just behind the front wheel would create lift and that would be very bad when you are trying to go around a corner at speed ;)

:iconl-x:
L-X Featured By Owner Dec 18, 2006
Oo, good point. I'll try and flatten that out alittle more... Lift wouldnt be good (but would be entertaining to watch F1 cars flying)

I'll model the suspension, but most likely just with cylinder primitives to get an idea, since I wont be doing any super-close-up renders.

Wow, it looks awesome! I wish F1s would look like that RIGHT NOW. Although I must admit I hate that "sport". Do you have any idea how much useless pollution F1s make?

That's why I like you man, design is the best part of a car; the part that doesn't hurt the environment :P

You should work on a Hydrogen concept car ;)

The average F1 team uses 52,835 gallons of fuel per season, or 3,108 gallons per race. The average season hosts 22 teams, equalling 1,162,370 gallons of fuel per year for the entire F1 sport. In contrast, the average total annual consumption of gasoline worldwide is 317,402,250,000 gallons.

Thus, F1 racing accounts for only 0.00037% of the pollution caused by gasoline. Racing is not to blame for pollution; it's the everyday soccer mom that's destroying our environment. ;)

But being the king event of automobile sports, them taking a green turn would most likely have a huge impact on the mindset of average F1 fans. What they did for season 2009 is a good start I think.
